ICA meets, launches programs for a "banner year."
The International
Commodores Association met at Clearwater Yacht Club on Friday, March 18, 2001 to launch what is being called a "banner
year" for its members.
The first order of business was passage of the proposed bylaws which had been edited, re-edited and
re-re-edited in response to members' suggestions. In the end, everyone agreed the additional effort
was worthwhile: the bylaws were passed without a single objection.
Next on the agenda was the election and installation of officers
for 2011: P/C Richard E. Oakley, FICA, of Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club took the ICA helm, with P/C John
Slattery of Palm Coast Yacht Club as his Vice Commodore for Administration. P/C Lou Daniello of Old Port
Yacht Club, stepped in as Rear Commodore; P/C Phil Bouckaert, FICA, of Sugar Sands Yacht Club took over as Secretary; and
P/C Alan Adams of North Palm Beach Yacht Club became Treasuer.
P/C Joseph A. Tringali, FICA, was elected and
installed as the ICA's first Vice Commodore for Education, a position which is admittedly unique in yachting associations.
ICA is a forward-looking organization, whose purpose is to honor the past while training future officers.
As V/C for Education, Tringali's assignment will be to develop and promote additional ICA programs.
With his customary energy, before the day was out Joe had presented plans for AYCOP: the Academy of Yacht Club Officers
and Professionals. After much thoughtful discussion, the Board approved an October launch for this "commodore's
university" and plans immediately went into high gear for the event.
Saturday evening began with a full-fledged Sundown Ceremony --
the first ever at Clearwater Yacht Club. Members of ICA then joined members of the Florida Commodores Association
and guests in the clubhouse for a spectacular surf and turf dinner, which was capped off by ICA Commodore Rich Oakely presenting
a charter to FCA Commodore Thomas G. Reynolds, III.
Everyone agreed it was a great way to begin a banner year. As always, ICA is looking
forward.
